A living record of where we have researched the local routes, checked the places that handle them, and published a guide. Not a ranking, and no city is scored against another.

What a status means
Mapped
Two or more Spots checked against an official or primary source, the city's routes documented, and a named editor's introduction written. Re-checked on a schedule.
In research
Candidates found and being read. A count in this group is what we have found, never what we have verified, and the two are not the same number.
Planned
Chosen for a reason, usually language coverage, or a reader asking, with no research done yet. Local knowledge moves a city up this list faster than anything.
Only Mapped cities are published. A city in research or planned has no page here yet, on purpose, an unfinished guide listed as coverage is a dead end dressed up.
Why there is no score
Ranking cities would need the same evidence in every one of them, and it does not exist. A number would look precise and mean very little: Lisbon and Seattle are hard to compare not because one is better, but because their systems record different things, one publishes a free kerbside collection with no price at all, the other charges by the load and prints the rate.
So this page counts what we have checked, and nothing else. When enough cities carry the same evidence, a methodology can follow it. Until then a score would be a guess with a decimal point.
What a score would measure, later
- Access Not measured
- Reuse Counted as routes, not scored
- Recycling Counted as routes, not scored
- Transparency Per Spot only
- Convenience Not measured
- Verification Counted, not scored
Nothing here is published as a number today.
Not the city you were looking for?
Tell us which one and we will add it to the list we work from. We open cities where people ask for them.
Should we map your city next?
A city becomes worth publishing when someone local can tell us how it really works. If that is you, start us off with one place you trust.
