Meet Shannon Melton, Vice President of Queen City Hauling

We caught up with Shannon Melton, Vice President of Queen City Hauling, a few weeks ago, and have shared our conversation below. Editor’s emphasis in bold.

What inspired you to start it in the first place?

Queen City Hauling started from a mix of passion and practicality. My husband Jeff and I both grew up in Charlotte and wanted to build something local that reflected our work ethic and love for helping people. We noticed how hard it was to find reliable, reasonably priced junk removal companies that actually cared about the customers. So, we decided to fill that gap with honest pricing, great communication, and a true family-run touch. What began with one truck and a lot of hustle has turned into a business that’s now helping our neighbors reclaim their spaces every day.

What has been one of your most memorable customer success stories?

One of our favorite moments was helping an elderly customer who had recently lost her husband. She felt overwhelmed by years of belongings and didn’t know where to start. We took the time to carefully sort items, donate what could still be used, and remove the rest – leaving her space clean and giving her peace of mind. She hugged Jeff afterward and said, “You didn’t just haul junk- you lifted a burden.” That reminded us why we started this business in the first place.

What makes your business stand out from other companies?

We’re proud to be a local, family-owned Charlotte company- not a franchise. Our crew shows up on time, communicates clearly, and treats every job like it’s for our own family, because to us you’re not just a customer, you’re a neighbor. We’re BBB accredited, fully insured, and maintain a 5-star reputation build on honesty and hard work. We also recycle and donate whenever possible to reduce landfill waste. At Queen City Hauling, customers deal directly with the owners, not a call center, and that personal connection makes all the difference.

What advice would you give to your client to prepare before they start working with you?

The best way to prepare is simply to know what you’d like removed and have clear access to the items. We always say, “You point, we load,” so our crew can handle everything safely and efficiently. If there are any items you’d like donated or kept separate, just let us know when we arrive. We take care of the heavy lifting, sorting, and cleanup, so our clients don’t have to worry about a thing- just enjoy seeing their space transformed once we’re done.

Do you have any exciting plans for the future of your business?

Absolutely! Queen City Hauling is continuing to grow, and we recently added to our fleet to keep up with the demand. One of the things we’re most excited about is our new partnership with Resupply, a nationwide donation pickup platform that helps connect gently used items with local charities and families in need. This allows us to keep even more usable items out of landfills while giving back to the community we love. Looking ahead, we’re focused on expanding our team, strengthening relationships with local property managers, and continuing to build our reputation as Charlotte’s top-rated, family-owned junk removal company- one 5 -star review at a time.
